Mount Desert Island, off the coast of Maine, is where my heart finds its true home. Nestled amid pine-clad cliffs and salt-kissed air, the ocean became my childhood playground. With my three brothers by my side, we spent our teen years scouring the shores for crabs, starfish, sand dollars and elusive octopuses. Each tide revealed unique creatures of all kinds, and like the Goonies, we experienced many secret adventures on that island—ah, the memories!
As an Army brat growing up in the 1970’s, my childhood was a whirlwind tour. From Ft. Hood, Texas to the cobblestone streets of Frankfurt, Germany. We travelled the world visiting amazing places like the castles in Europe, the fields of tulips in Holland, (we even donned wooden shoes while we were there), and we got to explore the miniature city in Amsterdam. Finally in my early teens, we settled back at my ancestral home in Northeast Harbor, (nestled on the southern shore of Mount Desert Island, Maine).
