New Orleans Society of Dance: Guardians of the Baby Doll Tradition
The New Orleans Society of Dance (NOSD), founded in 2005, is dedicated to preserving Louisiana’s women’s folk arts and reviving the historic Baby Doll masking tradition. As home to the acclaimed Baby Doll Ladies, NOSD serves as a cultural preservationist, educator, and curator of artifacts tied to this unique legacy.
Through year-round programs, it nurtures emerging artists, engages schools and youth, and promotes cultural education. Each year, NOSD’s season culminates with the vibrant Mardi Gras Dance-Parade, a dazzling fusion of tradition, pageantry, and dance. Beyond performance, NOSD champions artist development, community empowerment, and social justice through the power of dance.
