Diablo 4 disables player trading due to gold and item exploit

While it attempts to fix an exploit for duplicating gold and items in Diablo Diablo 4 Gold IV, Blizzard has suspended player trading "until further notice."

Diablo IV players on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One will be unable to trade with other players "until further notice," as Blizzard is attempting to fix a trading exploit players were using to duplicate large sums of gold and rare items. The team has said that accounts found to be engaging with the exploit will be "actioned," although later reassured players that those who had "accidentally" traded with someone using the exploit "won't be actioned against."

Diablo 4 gold and item exploit leads to Blizzard suspending player trading.

The exploit Blizzard is attempting to patch simply involves two players starting a trade, offering their items and gold, and then hard quitting the game without accepting the trade. When logging back into the game, the player offering the items and gold will find it all safely back in their inventory, while the second player walks away with the exact items and gold as well, ready to trade again or to keep.

Due to the exploit requiring player trading, Blizzard has had to turn it off for the time being. In a post on the Diablo IV forums, Blizzard has posted a "suspension of trading notice."

"We’ve suspended player trading in Diablo IV until further notice due to a gold and item duplication exploit. We are working on a fix to amend this issue and will update you once we’ve reinstated the ability to trade. Once that is done, we will continue to monitor this activity to ensure a healthy playing experience for all. As always, any account that engages in gold and item duplication exploits will be actioned in accordance with our End User License Agreement.

"We thank you for reporting this exploit to us and your patience."
The developer posted the same message on its subreddit, and later added that as "a point of clarification: players who accidentally traded with a player found using the exploit won't be actioned against."

Blizzard recently added a number of additional measures to help stop players D4 Gold from accidentally purchasing the premium Battle Pass.
